LIBRO
This is a book about the vanishing outhouses of Iowa. It has some photographs, illustrations and stories about those little houses out back that have played such a pivotal role in the lives of earlier Iowans. Some of the outhouses spoken of in this book are still in use, but many now serve no more important function than sheltering things, like fence posts, that really don't need to be sheltered. Some are reduced to being a roosting place for sparrows, or simply lean against a nearby boxelder tree, jus kinda tired, ya know. I suppose that, someday, the Privius Americanus that ranged the praises of Iowa will find itself in a museum where passers-by can look at it among the other relics. But today there are still a few tucked away among the trees and buildings of Iowa's farmsteaded. If you want your child or grandchild to see live Privius Americanus, you had better hurry. They are a vanishing species.
