"Antonietta Raphaël. Through the Looking Glass is a journey through the life and works of Antonietta Raphaël (Kaunas 1895 – Rome 1975). The exhibition takes the mirror as a common thread through which to examine self-representation, splitting and a threshold to be crossed. Religion, dreams, motherhood and female (self-)representation are among the central themes in the work of this independent and non-conformist woman, a “stranger passing through” (as Mario Mafai described her to Roberto Longhi in 1929). Capable of combining her Jewish and Lithuanian roots with the ideas emanating from the Roman milieu of the time, of which she became a leading figure, she achieved powerful results, both in painting and sculpture" --Back cover
