Il Serpente E La Croce - The Serpent and the Cross

di MARTIN ILUNGA. CHISHIMBA

A bilingual collection of poetry exploring spirituality, memory, resistance, and love across continents. The Serpent and the Cross is a powerful poetic journey through African ancestry, political reflection, and emotional introspection. Written in both English and Italian, the book weaves together the intimate and the collective, the personal wound and the historical echo. Zambian poet, actor, and storyteller Martin Ilunga Chishimba brings to the page a voice shaped by migration, theatre, and the search for identity. His poems confront colonial memory, power, justice, tenderness, exile, and the fragile beauty of human relationships. Divided into four thematic movements- Spirituality & Roots, Politics & Social Justice, History & Colonial Consciousness, Love & Introspection the collection invites the reader into a world where poetry is not ornament but survival. For readers seeking a raw, honest, and resonant voice that crosses borders of language, history, and the soul.
